Malaysia Airlines Crash in Ukraine

A Malaysia Airlines passenger plane crashed on July 17 while flying over the eastern Ukraine region of Donetsk. There were 280 passengers -mostly Dutch nationals- and 15 Malaysian crew on board. Reports suggest that the flight MH17 was shot down by a missile. This is the second time this year that tragedy has struck Malaysia Airlines.

Typhoon Ramasun Slams Philippines

Typhoon Rammasun, also known as Glenda, had hit Manila, the capital of the Philippines. The deadly typhoon, named after a thunder god, is the first to hit the country since last year's Typhoon Haiyan.

Jokowi Wins Indonesia Presidential Election

Jakarta governor Joko Widodo was declared the winner of Indonesia's presidential election with 53 percent of the vote against about 47 percent for ex-general Prabowo Subianto. Jokowi will be Indonesia's seventh president and he will start his five-year term on October 20.
