Hello June! We are nearly halfway through the year of 2012. A
new academic year for the basic education in Thailand started a couple of weeks ago, but some well-known
secondary schools still have a major problem to deal with . That is the admission
process. Top schools are indeed
inundated with thousands of applications every year but seats are limited! And then money is often disguised as donations to trade entrance seats. It is the vicious circle of education. A place in a well-known school should be based on knowledge. Not on how much money one has.
As far as we know,
the patron-client system has been existed in Thailand for ages. The bribe
money has been used to get a place in some premium schools year after year. So the child of the
rich would be accepted over the child of a more qualified poor family. This really
undermines the quality of education in our country. Undoubtedly, Thailand lags well behind other nations in the region in educational development. How has the problem of buying
seats in some top-notch schools been eradicated? A point for all of us to
ponder.
Let’s
talk about AC. The traffic of the blog drives so fast. More than 3,000 page
views a day! This may indicate that students as well as teachers are more eager
to persue greater knowledge on ASEAN. I really
appreciated to help pave the way towards the Asean Community for the youth of
the nation.
As
usual, more interesting articles and quizzes related to Asean are waiting for
you to study and learn through the month of June. Feel free to come visit the
blog and get involved.
Keep enjoy learning and sharing,
Kru Ekachai
