Myanmar will host the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2014
In 2014, Myanmar will host and chair the ASEAN Summits and key ASEAN meetings for the first time since joining the Association. President Thein Sein said the theme of Myanmar's chairmanship would be "moving forward in unity in a peaceful and prosperous community."

The sultanate of Brunei has announced it will enforce new Sharia criminal code with punishments including stoning, flogging and amputation next year. Brunei already implements Islamic teachings more sternly than Indonesia and Malaysia. The sale of alcohol is banned and evangelism by other religions is forbidden.
