Basic Education
Lao PDR follows a 5+4+3 system, or a 12 year curriculum where the first 5 years are considered primary, the following 4 are lower secondary and the last 3 are upper secondary.
The School Year
The school year consists of 33 working weeks at all levels. It extends from mid-August to mid-June. The academic year is divided into two semesters, each comprising 16 to 17 weeks.
