The United Nations describes Rohingya as a religious and linguistic minority from western Myanmar. They are one of the most persecuted communities in the world. They haven't been recognised as citizens of Myanmar since its independence in 1948.

The Rohingya people mostly live in Myanmar's Rakhine State, formerly known as Arakan State.
